The Musicians-in-Residence

This project is the commissioning of new musical compositions through a team of Musicians-in-Residence that will work and live part time in the Western Sydney area from October 2003 to March 2004. The four primary composers, teachers and performers have all lived and worked extensively in the region.

Musicians Janet Swain, Paul Jarman, Adam Hill and Peter Kennard will create a series of new works to be performed at the regional events and at other locations throughout the celebrations. A 200-voice choir drawn from the five local government areas will perform the music over more than seven performances to a wide variety of audiences. Admission will be free to all open-air performances.

Song Dynasty

Song Dynasty Group - Paul Jarman, Peter Kennard Adam Hill, and Janet Swain

The music will have a strong Irish theme but will also contain flavours of the many cultures associated with the Battle of Vinegar Hill and of the communities now represented in the region. A special Indigenous composition will be included in consultation with the Indigenous groups in the area.

The Composers will contact schools, multicultural groups, choirs, music groups and musicians in the region to involve them in the project. Rehearsal tapes will be provided to participants and a schedule prepared for teaching, workshops, rehearsals and performances.
